About the Exchange Connector & FaxPress Email Gateway

The FaxPress Exchange Connector is part of the FaxPress server-based email integration option for Microsoft Exchange environments, and supports Exchange 5.5 and Exchange 2000/2003 servers, as well as cluster server environments. Installed from the FaxPress 9.x CD, the Exchange Connector runs as a service on your Exchange server.

The Exchange Connector works together with the FaxPress Email Gateway, one of the FaxPress server’s add-on services.

The Exchange Connector and FaxPress Email Gateway each play a distinct role in enabling the FaxPress server’s integration with your Exchange Server. The Exchange Connector acts as a message transport agent between the Exchange server and the Email Gateway, scanning the Exchange server and forwarding all fax messages to the Email Gateway. The Connector also provides fax addressing templates for Exchange users.

The Email Gateway synchronizes the Exchange and FaxPress user databases, converts fax-addressed email messages passed by the Exchange Connector to a faxable format, then sends those messages to the FaxPress outgoing fax queue. The FaxPress Email Gateway provides two options for use with the Exchange Connector:

Both options enable inbound and outbound faxing through Exchange, synchronizing of the FaxPress and Exchange user databases, use of the global address book for faxing, and convenient server-side deployment. The MAPI option also enables the FaxPress View_Form for inbound faxes. The SMTP option enables the Send_Form only.
